Frequently Asked Questions

  • When should I buy new tires?
Replace your tires when the tread depth reaches 2/32". You can test this with the penny test — insert a penny into the tread with Lincoln's head facing down. If you can see the top of his head, it's time for new tires. Also replace if you see sidewall bulges, cracking, or if the tires are over 6 years old regardless of tread depth.
  • What tire size do I need for my vehicle?
Your tire size is printed on the sidewall of your current tires in a format like P215/65R16. It's also listed in your vehicle owner's manual and on a sticker inside the driver's door jamb. Bring your vehicle in and our team can confirm the correct size for your specific make, model, and trim.
  • How often should I rotate my tires?
Most manufacturers recommend rotating tires every 5,000–7,500 miles — or roughly every other oil change. Regular rotation ensures even wear across all four tires, extending their lifespan and maintaining consistent handling.
  • What should my tire pressure be?
Check the sticker inside your driver's door jamb or your owner's manual — not the tire sidewall (that shows the max pressure). Most passenger cars call for 32–35 PSI. Check your pressure at least once a month and always when cold (before driving more than a mile).
  • Do I need winter tires in Massachusetts?
While Massachusetts doesn't legally require winter tires, they are strongly recommended for Brockton winters. Winter tires use a softer rubber compound that stays flexible below 45°F, providing dramatically better grip on snow and ice compared to all-season tires. Ask us about our seasonal changeover service.
  • How long does a tire installation take?
A standard 4-tire installation including mounting, balancing, and TPMS reset takes approximately 45–90 minutes at Gervin Tire. We recommend scheduling an appointment to minimize wait time, though walk-ins are welcome based on availability.
  • Can I mix different tire brands on my car?
It's generally not recommended. Mixing brands or models can create uneven handling, especially in emergency situations. At minimum, tires should be matched in pairs on the same axle. For all-wheel-drive vehicles, it's especially important to keep all four tires the same size, brand, and model to avoid drivetrain damage.
